This jubbly wee website is brought to you by the Ōwhiro Bay Residents Association. But that's a stuffy old title and we're all friends here, so from here on in you can refer to us as OBRA.
This website is a collaborative resource for all Ōwhiro Bay residents. As it grows, we hope it becomes an interactive treasure chest for community-building and storytelling. |
This is also our platform for all issues relating to our community. When action needs to be taken, and you need to be involved, this website is your action station.

30/04/23: OBRA Submission:
Open Space and Recreation Strategy
OBRA was one of 1452 organisations and individuals who made a submission on Wellington City Council's open spaces and recreation strategy.
Ali Forrest 'Zero Waste' WCC Presentation - 5th April 2023
OBRA member Ali Forrest spoke to Wellington City Council's Environment and Infrastructure Committee today. The focus of the meeting was entirely on the Zero Waste Strategy. Ali spoke in support of the submission OBRA made earlier on the strategy.

As part of our inaugural celebration of Matariki, we were privileged to have Holden kōrero with us at Nautilus (a full house!) about the history and relevance of Maori in the Ōwhiro Bay area. Community Planting in 2022!
Planting in 2022 aims to fill this area of "The Green" to reduce maintenance for residents in the neighbouring houses and to provide protection for penguins and other marine life on the beach.

Plants have been ordered for the 2022 Ōwhiro Bay community planting.
Several hundred plants will arrive at planting season ready to go in the ground at the northern end of "The Green" on Ōwhiro Bay Parade. The plant ordering and planting is organised by the Ōwhiro Bay Environment Group which is a subcommittee of the Ōwhiro Bay Residents Association. The Group has a MoU with Wellington City Council (WCC) for annual planting and with Places for Penguins for predator trapping and penguin monitoring around the Bay.
