Greater Wellington Regional Council has voted 7 to 4 in favour of a recommendation from GWRC Officers to develop a Detailed Business Case on the development of a bus depot in South Wellington - including the option to develop the depot on land at the bottom of Landfill Road.
Åwhiro Bay Residents Association members attended the hearing and spoke in the public participation part of the meeting.
In our submission, we reiterated our support for public transport infrastructure. However we told the meeting we had significant concerns about the process by which they were being asked to make a decision today based on the information presented to them. We asked that before proceeding with the Business Case process they further considered the available options for where a bus depot should be placed.
"Certainly, the Council should not be being asked to expend money on consenting for one site, over all other options, when a final decision on the best option has yet to be made."
